MEMORANDUM

Place of Creation: San Salvador (El Salvador)


Topic: Historical memory


Synopsis: With the collaboration of the Museum of the Word and the Image (Museo de la Palabra y la Imagen, MUPI) and Colectivo Co‐Madres through the artistic action of a group of students from Universidad Don Juan Bosco, we made a collaborative book on historical memory in this Central American country after its civil war and in the complex context of the post‐war period.

EL RENACIMIENTO

Place of Creation: Copan Ruins (Honduras)


Topic: Tangible and intangible heritage


Synopsis: A king and a queen return to life during an eclipse and they discover that young people are disconnected from their heritage. Their mission will be to try, for a few hours, to redraw bridges between the new inhabitants of Copán Ruinas and their ancestral traditions. The book was produced with the participation of local Tourism students and with the collaboration of a Chortí theatre group.

MI BELLO ATITLÁN

Topic: Spirituality


Synopsis: The book collects several narrative pieces (stories, chronicles, drawings, poems, etcetera) about the spiritual experience in Lake Atitlán and in particular in Santiago Atitlán with the collaboration of the Local Public Library, Puertas Abiertas educational project, Pueblo a Pueblo organization and the Atitlán Graphic Archive.

PATOJOS Y PATOJAS DE JOCOTENANGO

Topic: Youth activism for peace


Synopsis: In collaboration with the socio‐educational project Los Patojos and its pedagogical, cultural and transformative proposal which is known as Patojismo, we managed to capture in this book various life experiences of young people from Jocotenango, located in the Antigua periphery, through their coexistence with various artistic disciplines whose principal aim is peace.

Synopsis: Synopsis: This eminently photographic book portrays the musicality that is lived in this Caribbean country that has a strong Afro‐descendant imprint in its national identity. The book contains life experiences of young Belizeans in relation to music and a particular close up to the annual National Settlement Day that commemorates the liberation of the Garifuna culture from slavery.

Topic: Art

 

Synopsis: An imaginary paper boat collects the work of young artists from Tulum, Progreso, Barcelona and Istanbul and its navigators capture it all in a purely artistic effort that is shared in this book that is an allegation to the power of art as a tool to unify the world.

ETAIL - SUKU'UN

Topic: Identity


Synopsis: High School students from a public school in Cancún identified the elements that conform the youth identity in this city and then they wrote essays on them trying to define the Cancún identity structure which is directly affected by tourism, among other factors.

LA SEMÁNTICA INTERCULTURAL

Place of Creation: Valladolid (Mexico)


Topic: Mother tongues


Synopsis: A group of young writers from Valladolid generated this book that aims, among other things, to create stories from Mayan words that are used in the Spanish‐speaking daily life of the Yucatán Peninsula. It also contains texts that were elaborated in Ek Balam and a collective definition of Culture, among other collective exercises.

Place of Creation: Mani and Merida (Mexico)


Topic: Historical roots


Synopsis: In the dark times of the Spanish Conquest, Fray Diego de Landa built a huge bonfire during the auto de fe and burned ritual objects, writings and artistic works from the local community in a cruel attempt to destroy their culture. 500 years later, we made a list of some characters that conform the Yucatecan cosmogony and we made a book that is enrooted in the regional imaginary.

Topic: Women


Synopsis: A group of women made a poetic anthology within the framework of the Yucatán International Book Fair (FILEY) after they had defined, in a participatory list, the elements that conform the life of a woman in Yucatán and also around the world. The poems review these columns of life from birth to the memory of those who are gone.

Topic: Climate change

Synopsis: In a future and apocalyptic Campeche the politicians decide to raise even more the walls that surround the old city, segregating its population. This book is a song to the roots, to forgiveness and to the ability that all humans have to retrace the traced path, recovering in our origins the meaning of our lives.

Topic: Elderly


Synopsis: Members of Club de Oro in the House of Culture and Communication students from Universidad Intercultural de Chiapas‐UNICH met together to live an exchange experience through the art of interviewing. The corridors of the House of Culture were filled with many stories that were reflected in this very special book.

ECOS DE LA CIUDAD

Topic: Conscious urbanism


Synopsis: A group of Architecture students from Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán‐UADY carried out urban drifts during a semester in various iconic places in Mérida and from there they wrote stories capturing narratives and urban landscapes with anecdotes and exploring narrative possibilities. We wanted the future managers of the urban aspect of Mérida to know how to listen to its echoes.

CUENTOS COLECTIVOS POR LA PAZ

Place of Creation: San Jose (Costa Rica) y Merida (Mexico)


Topic: Peace


Synopsis: Through an exchange supported by the International Youth Organization for Ibero‐ America (OIJ), together with Carretica cuentera, we developed a participatory methodology for the development of urban stories of conflicts with a good ending through forgiveness, dialogue and empathy. With this methodology we intended to heal urban wounds of anger, rage, envy, etcetera.

NARRAR EL TERRITORIO

Place of Creation: Gibara and Baracoa (Cuba)


Topic: Daily and local stories


Synopsis: Through two collective writing workshops we listed the scenarios in which the imaginaries of Gibara and Baracoa, in the eastern part of Cuba, are developed, as well as the everyday, unreal and/or historical characters that live in these scenarios. We mixed both dimensions in texts.
